American foreign policy since the late 1th century had been aggressive and nationalistic. As a colonial power with increasingly valuable investments outside the country, the United Sates became more and more involved in international affairs. The United States constantly intervened in the affairs of Latin America for there economic, commercial and other benefits.

The main reasons which led the United States to intervention were that it feared the Spanish, Russians and the other European countries might gain control of Latin America. In order to protect its own interest in issued the Monroe Doctrine of 18 which instructed the European nations to stay out of the affairs of the Western Hemisphere, while the US remained virtually impregnable to foreign attack. The Monroe Doctrine eventually became one of the foundations of U.S. policy in Latin America. Secondly the Spanish American War became the turning point in the American Foreign Policy. After the war the United States was set on the path of a modern non-aristocratic empire which was chiefly oriented towards commercial and monetary gain. As a result the U.S. foreign policy was directed primarily in the pursuit of export markets.

After the Spanish American war many polices were implemented and actions were taken by the U.S. in order to promote U.S. intervention in Latin America. T. Roosevelt believed in using force to implore U.S. policies. In the effort he made the U.S. an international police force and declared that the U.S. would intervene when ever it feels necessary and will also protect its investments from other imperialist countries. This was known as the Big Stick Diplomacy of Roosevelt. An example of his meaning in this statement was when Canada wanted the Alaskan land that America owned, they were fighting over the boundaries because of gold found in the area, Roosevelt simply stated that if the boundaries would change, there would be serious consequences. Because of his problem solving method, Roosevelt was known to use Big Stick diplomacyAs conditions were becoming a bit worse for the U.S. Roosevelt, Franklin Delano established the Good Neighbor Policy which greatly improved international relations. It literally meant that the U.S. would no longer intervene in Latin America to protect private American property interests.

Taft's Dollar diplomacy, in which Taft tried to substitute economic force in stead of military force as a result it expanded U.S. investment and stabilized them, Wilson's Moral Diplomacy, Big Stick Diplomacy, Good Neighbor Policy some way or the other clearly show that the U.S. was chiefly directed towards monetary and commercial gains and in the steps of becoming a world power.

The U.S carried out many interventions in the Latin America and it has been said that it is its Backyard. The United States intervened in Cuba on the basis of the Teller Amendment (188) according to which the U.S. would not establish permanent control over Cuba. The amendment permitted the United States to unilaterally intervene in Cuba if it felt its interests were threatened. This amendment was not abrogated until 14. The end of Spains empire signified the rise of the U.S. Empire in the Caribbean. U.S. economic interests in Cuba were huge by the beginning of the war (Cuban independence war from Spain), more than 80 percent of the islands sugar industry was controlled by the United States. Following the Teller the Plat Amendment was put into action. This amendment prohibited Cuba from entering into any foreign agreement, it also allowed the US to intervene whenever she saw it fit, and allowed the US to set up naval bases in Cuba. This was set up to protect the $50 million worth of US investment in Cuba. In the year 104 Roosevelt created the Roosevelt Corollary to the Monroe Doctrine. The doctrine justified U.S. intervention in the affairs of Latin American nations in order to ensure the stability and solvency of Latin America. An example of this interference was the American intervention in Haiti when it was not wanted. In 115 President Woodrow Wilson sent the United States Marines into Haiti following after which in the year 116, Congress ratified a treaty that would allow the US ten years of control over Haiti to maintain order and give political and economic assistance. Later in the year 118 a Haitian constitution favorable to the U.S. commercial interest was ratified.

America's domination of the Caribbean was illustrated when it decided to build a canal across the Isthmus of Panama, which at that time belonged to Colombia. When the Colombian senate refused to allow the canal, in 10, Roosevelt encouraged and abetted a revolution that separated Panama from Colombia. As a result the new nation agreed to let the canal construction proceed and it was opened in 114. Just because the U.S would gain economical benefits by building the canal it intervened in Colombia and by giving Panama its independence it found its way out. This clearly shows that the U.S was chiefly directed to economical gains and benefits.

The first U.S. intervention in Nicaragua occurred in 10 when Marines were sent to support a revolt against Liberal general. The Marines continued to be used when deemed necessary until 1. During this period U.S. economical and commercial interests in Nicaragua grew rapidly, and many Nicaraguans increasingly resented what they viewed as unnecessary intrusion by U.S. forces. This is one of the primary ways in which U.S. intervened in most of the countries, In the beginning when the country was involved in a revolt and crisis the U.S would intervene and help the country to get through its crisis. Then it would establish its own control for economical and commercial benefit and exploit the country's resources and gain tremendous profits.

In 11 Wilson's tendency toward moral self-righteousness showed itself when he refused to recognized the government of Mexico because it was headed by a man whom he considered to be a murderer. When Wilson tried to use U.S. navy to block arms shipment to Mexico, several incidents took place as a result the U.S, seized Vera Curz.

Many a times the U.S. has intervened in the affairs of the Latin American countries in order to protect its interest, for monetary gains and in the process of becoming a world power.

Cheap University Papers on humor

Humor, its not only funny

My favorite reading I did for philosophy class was "Man's Search for Meaning" by Viktor Frankl.I had studied World War II and the Holocaust in history class in high school. I knew about the gas chamber's and all the other cruelty inflicted on the Jews at the hands of the Nazi Party. What I never thought about was the state of mind you would have to possess to have the will to live. Frankl not only wrote about the horrors , but the thoughts and theories he had while a prisoner in a death camp. While reading about his horrible experiences, I was amazed when he wrote about humor, " the soul'sweapon in the fight for self preservation." I was picturing myself in Frankl's place cold , hungry anddirty, dressed in rags. Being awoken from a wooden bunk to march over the frozen ground to perform slave labor. "How could I ?" I thought . " A person with an outrageous sense of humor , find anythingfunny in this situation?" I thought back to when I was young and in Girl Scouts. I was camping with my troop at Gettysburg to earn a merit badge. The badge was normally only awarded to Boy Scouts , butwe were given the chance. It was early spring and the weather was cold and damp . Part of earning the badge involved a long hike through the battlefield . Eager to fulfill this requirement we started off in good spirits . We got half way through the hike and it began to pour down rain. We were cold , tired andmiserable . Our Troop leader told us to stop complaining about our predicament and focus on the prestigious badge we were trying to earn. Miles to go to reach shelter ,there was nothing we could do butcontinue . Somehow we got the idea if we thought of warm , comfortable things we all would feel better."The beach, someone said out loud. Florida , palm trees and sand" . " What if we where there right now ? said Another" . We started to crack jokes . Oh yeah it's so hot I can't stand it ! I forgot my bathing suit ! Laughing and joking the rest of the way we forgot about our misery. Before we knew it we where back at our completely drenched campsite, but continued to keep the "joke" going all weekend . When we did receive that Gettysburg badge we remembered that trip as one of the best times of our lives.Although the conditions of my experience doesn't begin to compare to Frankl's in a concentration camp ,I can understand why Frankl felt keeping ones sense of humor is important. I have always gravitated towards humor when faced with difficult situations in my life . I try to look at these situations as funnyinstead of depressing . Once I see the humor , I view my problems as a great story to tell one day. If you ever watch your favorite sitcom on TV, most of what happens to the characters is usually some pretty rotten stuff. They argue with their spouses , their kids get in trouble ,they lose their jobs ,etc. All the difficulties that bring us down in everyday life also happens to them . The only difference is that the writers and actors of these sitcoms work to make these situations funny . We can relate to these sitcoms and we laugh . We should learn to laugh at ourselves the same way when faced with our own problems. I discussed humor one night with a psychologist friend of mine , Linda Tufts . Linda told me that people who learn to laugh at themselves don't spend a lot of time worrying about what might happen to them because they know they will find humor in almost anything. Nothing can be so terrible that that they can't crack a joke . They usually start their stories with " the funny thing is , although I shouldn't be laughing…" Linda also told me she was taught that the events of our lives , even the most devastating hardships , don't have as much influence on our mental health than does the way we respond to them.I have read research done by Emily Bradshaw and Donna E. Haupt in " The Good Health Fact Book"in which they state, " Laughter helps people breath easier , massages the heart and other vital organs ,releases disease - fighting cells in the immune system, and like exercise, laughter quickens the pulse and stimulates the cardiovascular system."They also point out "Humor leads to a positive outlook on life that guards against illness and may increase longevity." They also say , scientists had studied optimistic people against their pessimist counterparts. They not only found a connection between pessimism and depression , but consider it a factor fordisease just like high blood pressure and smoking. Pessimists , they state , are more likely to develop physical illness when stressed , often taking longer to recover after surgery than the optimistic. Although I was born with a wild sense of humor , people are surprised to know that I also suffer fromdepression. Through therapy I have learned to overcome my depression by taking the time to do the activities I like to do. It is one of the reasons I am taking this class . I have learned once I am happy doing my favorite activities , it is easier for me to look at the bright side of life . I look at people more positively and recall events more favorably when I take the time for myself. I was advised by my therapistthat the positive aspects I have found in doing my favorite activities helps to develop my self- esteemwhich nurtures joy in my life. She told me resolutions of inner conflicts clears the way for happy feelings. Frankl wrote about that he practically trained a friend of his in the camp to develop a sense of humor. Then he suggested to him to promise to invent one amusing story a day. I will think of those wordsViktor Frankl wrote and how humor among other things helped him survive in the death camp. I will try to invent one amusing story to share at the dinner table with my family . I will also make the suggestion tomy friends. My son Brett showed me a project he did for his sixth grade class the other day. He had to list the qualities he likes in himself. He wrote that he was smart, that's true he's a A student. He wrote that he was was good in sports , also true. He is the pitcher for his Little League team and will play in the Hall of Fame this summer. What made me the most proud of him is he wrote " I am funny". I said , Brett are you funny in school? He said ,"yes , I tell good jokes . Everybody wants to sit with me at the lunch table". I am proud of my son's sense of humor because he has the and knowledge and talent to be successful in his life . I also know he has a great sense of humor that will provide him with joy and happiness in his troubled times as much as in his success..

Evaluative ReportThe aims of my production piece were to create a magazine front cover and contents page to suit a specific genre, which was teen girls, using the layout, mise en scene and design to attract my target audience. The purpose of the production piece was to improve the quality of the pre-production piece and take it a step further towards completion. My front cover uses bright but calming blue to symbolise tranquillity but then uses a very bright purple to catch the eyes of the readers. The colour of my front cover is one of the improvements that I have made from the pre-production piece. The pre-production was in black and white but to make the production more attractive and interesting to the customer I decided to add in bold colours. The font is a relaxing yet sophisticated type, which will reflex the character of my target reader. It has the price in the corner of the magazine that, from my research, my target audience is willing to pay. The title of my magazine is Chic, which symbolises sophistication, class, and style. The font is deep blue which symbolises richness and quality. I have used alternating colours on the captions and the rule of three to attract the reader's focus onto my product. The biggest caption I have used is ‘Exclusive' which will stand out and be the unique selling point of my magazine. I have also used emotive language ‘Her feeling on hurt and betrayal' and alliterations ‘sexiest, most stylish, summer'. The model on the front is very stylish and sexy looking. She is looking at he camera to show she is confidant and determined which is very in keeping with the zeitgeist of the time and reflects the attitude of my target reader. She is wearing combat clothes, which is the fashion of the time, and she has her hand on her hip, which shows attitude. My contents page also uses cool, soothing colours for the background. The font is deep blue and white which are crisp and fresh. The colour of the production piece is also one of the improvements I have made. This improvement will attract the readers and persuade them to buy the magazine. I have used alternating colours when describing the story and the page number so that the appearance of the page doesn't get too plain. I have explained what is on the front cover and also the best bits of the magazine, giving a wide range of articles to attract a wider audience. I have used a lot of pictures on the contents page to show all the different features of the magazine. One picture shows the fashion in the magazine and a model has a stylish dress on and looks very elegant which is very persuasive because it says that you can look like the model if you buy the magazine. Another of the pictures shows a model in an exotic destination with a bikini on. This ties in with the front cover, which shows the date on it as ‘May 00' making it a summer magazine. The final picture is of three models showing their different hairstyles, all new looks for the summer to ‘stay cool and collectable'.

Buy cheap magazine front covers term paper

The typical codes and conventions used for my chosen genre, which is teenage girls, would be contrasting, eye catching colours. The design and layout would be fun and exciting, it would have to have enough pictures to keep the readers focus. The models would be attractive and yet not intimidating, the reader would have to feel that they could relate in someway to the model and not that they are an unrealistic representation of young people. The articles advertised would have to relate to the readers life and the feelings and experiences they have lived through. All these techniques are used in the code and conventions of my specific genre, teen girls, to attract the greatest possible audience.I think that my magazine would do well in comparison to all the other magazines because it is a reasonably cheap price and I have created a name that people could easily remember. I have used soft soothing colours and sophisticated font, attractive models and interesting captions. I also used persuasive language and unique selling points. In my research I used a variety of methods. I used the Internet to research previous magazines to build up the typical codes and conventions used in my chosen genre. I used questionnaires to establish such things as the price people are willing to spend, what initially attracts them to the magazine, and how often the buy it to see whether to make a weekly or monthly magazine. I then used a focus group, which is a specific group of my targeted audience to find out which of my designs and layouts would they find most appealing and attractive. I decoded existing magazines and established the common conventions used to get an idea of the things I should be including in my own magazine. To produce my magazine I used pictures I found in other magazines, cut them out and scanned them into my computer. I then put them into Photoshop and linked them together, created titles, captions, colours, and touched up the pictures so they looked professional. I then printed them off on a colour printer to get the best look. The most problems I had related to the scanner. I found it very hard to line the pictures up perfectly and blend them together so they didn't look just stuck on and unrealistic. Getting the correct resolution for the pictures was also very hard to do. This has resulted in the images I used not being as blended as I would have liked them to be. The text on the contents page is a bit faint so maybe I could have made that a stronger colour. Also the model on the front cover could have stood out more by being a bit bigger.Although I think my magazine has met my aims in targeting teen girls, I am aware that by using the images I chose such as tall, slim, fashionably attractive female models I am risking alienating a proportion of my audience who, rather than aspiring to this ‘ideal' may feel intimidated. This might affect the sales of my magazine if the models and topics are not relating to the wider audience. However using the images might attract people who wish to live the lifestyle my magazine portrays.

Another possible criticism is that it could also alienate black teens, as there are only white females on the front cover. Although the articles would appeal to readers from many different cultures this is not reflected in the choice of images and therefore this could adversely affect sales.

Overall I am satisfied with my production piece and feel that with a few minor changes it would be a successful magazine in a competitive market.

Natures most colorful show, fall foilage in the White Mountains, was overtaken in the eyes of myself, and my children due to the excitement of being able to see moose and the natural beauty that the North Country offers all year round. I have been in New England for two years and this was my families' first visit to the White Mountains. I could not believe all the different color of leaves that were found. There were yellow, red, orange, purple and yes, there were also some green leaves still on the trees. But all that was lost seeing the other sights that were provided to us in what is called "North Country." We planned on leaving Saturday at eight A.M. The sun was shining brightly with hues of gold and red. We were planning to go to Pittsburg, New Hampshire which is about thirteen miles from the Canadian border. Along the journey we had intended to do some freshwater fishing using worms to attract trout, and to visit the Lancaster Fish Hatchery. Visiting the fish hatchery was a truly impressive experience. Seeing the various stages of rainbow, brook and brown trout, penned into raceways made us realize how majestic the trout were. A raceway is a flowing water pen that contains the trout until they have matured into the next stage of their development. Adjacent to the raceways they had a pen for a select few lunkers. These mature hand fed trout grew into mammoth specimens of the breed ranging anywhere from twenty four to thirty six inches long. From that point we journeyed onto the Lancaster Suzuki dealership to view some of winter's toys such as snowmobiles and all terrain vehicles. Snowmobile season is fast approaching and both my husband and my father-in-law are children of the snow. We stopped to view some of the new models and styles as well as some used ones. They had colors ranging from blue, yellow, orange and they also had green ones. They had single and double rider snowmobiles. While there we discovered a way for our whole family to enjoy the sport of snowmobiling with the use of a new design snowmobile trailer that can seat two people in comfort.

We ended our travels at the Lopstick Lodge and Cabins in Pittsburgh. We were given cabin eight, which was only dwarfed in its own beauty by the view from the deck. Looking out to the east, seeing nothing but pine trees, mountains and the First Connecticut lake was our backdrop for the evening. The cabin was rustically furnished with a hunter dcor, and the interior made with varnished maple knotty pine. The cabin slept eight people comfortably in the two rooms and came complete with a fully functioning kitchen with all necessities. We ignored the kitchen to dine at the Buck Rub Pizza Pub, which is my in laws stomping grounds. The Buck Rub was very quaint and a neighborhood place to enjoy pizza, family and a frosty one if you chose to. After enjoying our pizza and a few frosty ones it was off to fish at the First Connecticut Lake.Fishing the First Connecticut Lake from the shore on a windy day was akin to trying to throw fastballs into the end of a straw. Every cast floated on a Nine Oclock angle back towards shore. Undeterred my middle son, Steven, caught a lake shiner, and my husband caught what we could only call bait. His fish was smaller than the worm he used to catch it. We then tried our luck at a second place, the east inlet. East inlet is more of an adventure in the ride than a fishing experience. Driving for twenty five minutes in the back of a pickup truck on a dirt road, in Pittsburg at 50 pm is a frigid thing. The temperature was between fifty five and sixty degrees and still dropping as the sun went down. We endured the cold and we were treated to a beautiful rainbow reflecting of the water at the sunset, and many laughs that I inspired. From there it was onto moose hunting. Spotting with two very bright searchlights, my husband and I braved the cold up and down moose alley in the back of my father-in-laws pickup truck. After what seemed like forever, four wheel drive was locked in and off the road we went down a winding dirt logging trail. Maneuvering the truck along the old logging road we saw several deer. Then we got to see the sight that we came all the way for. Standing in the tree line off of the right side of the trail was a bull moose. He was young but still stood about seven feet tall and antlers that would span a good four feet. Seeing us he slowly walked away into the woods. Seeing the bull moose made me want to see more. Realizing just how large a creature he actually was made it that much more special. We traveled back towards moose alley and we continued to spot for moose. Upon deciding to return to our cabin we were asked by a young family if we had seen any moose. They had a young child, she was about two years old traveling with them and they did not have a spotlight. We told them that we had seen one bull moose but we were still in search of more. We told them to follow us and we would be sure to find one. About 10 miles down the road my husband shined the spotter on the driver's side and he found a cow moose down in the valley. The young child was able to view her first moose because of our efforts. My husband said that seeing the little girls face light up was the highlight of the trip. We then headed back to cabin number eight. When we were pulling up the steep hill it was as if we were the only ones still awake. We did not see any lights around us for what seemed like a mile. Once on the deck you could see a little reflection off of the lake. It was so quiet around us you could have heard a pin drop.Sunday arrived and we began the trip back home, stopping for breakfast at Moriahs in Pittsburg center. Moriah's is a popular place for it home cooked breakfast. When our breakfast was brought to the table we encountered two of the largest pancakes that I have ever seen. These blueberry pancakes were about twelve inches in diameter and covered the entire plate. My son, who had ordered the pancakes, eyes became as big as golf balls. The trip ended after a two hour drive back to Manchester, just in time for my father-in-law to enjoy the Patriots play the Redskins. As I recall the trip through my minds eye, I understand why my family enjoys Pittsburg, and I see why people would live there. I thought Pittsburg would be boring with nothing to see or do, seeing as how I am a flatlander, but I have learned that beauty is in the mountains, the people who call them home, and the time you take to explore the things that nature has put before us to enjoy.

Order your WOG Day paper at affordable prices with custom writing service! What could possibly force a crew of nearly 1,500 sailors and marines on a United States Amphibious vessel to crawl around on their hands and knees while being subjected to numerous disgusting humiliations? Is this Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) punishment at its worst? A strange chemical weapon drill? The cause of this seemingly absurd behavior is an ancient naval ritual known as crossing the line better known as wog day. It is performed when a United States ship crosses the equator; this ceremony has a rich and varied history. Crossing the line is nearly as old as seafaring itself and the most humorous ritual I've ever participated in.Wog Day is made up of many different navy beliefs, legends, and characters. Starting with King Neptune. King Neptune is the roman God of fresh water but sometimes he is associated with Poseidon. Poseidon had a kingdom in the sea and put King Neptune in charge of it. "King Neptune sometimes appears with his trident and his wife Queen Amphitrite. (www.cushing.navy.mil)" Another character associated with wog day is Davey Jones. Davey Jones has a number of stories concerning his origin. "The Australians tell a tale of a fearsome pirate who sank to the bottom of the sea when crossing the equator and now patrols the equator on his killer whale boarding any vessel that dares to pass waters of the King's Majestic Realm. (CDR McComas United States Navy)" Some ceremonies list Davey Jones as King Neptune's Royal Scribe, who makes sure each wog has crossed the line. Another characters that make up wog day are Wogs and Shellbacks. A wog is a sailor or marine that has not been a cross the equator. And a shellback is a Sailor or Marine that has been across the equator.

Being a shellback carries a special meaning. It's a name that explains your shipboard experience. Everyone that joins the navy does not have the chance to carry the name shellback. However there are an abundance amount of sailors that carry the name wog. A shellback is someone to look up to to junior sailors that are new on board. Being a shellback not only means that you've had the chance to part take in the wog day celebration. It also means you've had the chance to visit the Navy's best port. Australia. I can remember my first crossing the line experience as if it was yesterday. The morning of February 5th 18 at 18 am the USS Dubuque LPD-8 officially crossed the equator (0th parallel). After reveille, the wogs were woken up very rudely and abruptly by the shellbacks. We were told to put on clothes that only slimy wogs deserved to wear. Our attire for the wog day celebration was our daily working uniform. However everything had to be turned inside or worn backwards. We were advised to wear only uniforms we planned on throwing away because things were going to get pretty messy. The wogs who wished to participate in the celebration duck walked to the mess decks being led by our honorable trusty shellbacks to consume a hearty breakfast. The hearty breakfast consisted of green eggs and noodles. Everything associated with us slimy wogs was green. While we feasted on our delightful green meal, the trusty shellbacks were raising the Jolly Rogers pennant to signify to passers that there were slimy wogs aboard. When breakfast had ended, all the slimy wogs assembled on the flight deck where the trusty shellbacks led us to the beginning of the rigorous obstacle course. They did there best to cleanse us by washing us down with refreshing, cold, salty seawater. Your wog day went well depending on your ship social status. If a sailor was well liked, disliked or very popular his or her wog day was very long and problematical. However if a Sailor was one that usually kept to him or her self, the wog day was quick and painless because no one knew enough about that sailor to give them a hard time. I was known as a pretty boy on board the USS Dubuque with a great deal of arrogance and conceit in my blood. So my wog day went by extremely slow. At one point in time it seemed as if everyone attention was on me. After my salt water wash down. I found myself blowing bubbles in pad eyes with my hands tied behind my back with at the same time having hot sauce poured down my buttocks and having peanut butter smeared in my hair, face, and ears. The slimy wogs went from station to station on the obstacle course participating in many ridiculous acts such as kick lines, and singing songs. We were constantly asked to repeat different things to our honorable shellbacks. Such as "I'm a slimy wog and I deserve to be punishment. Please honorable trusty shellbacks punish me." After completing the obstacle course that was designed for us slimy wogs, I reached the end just for one my honorable shellbacks to tell me to go to the very beginning of the obstacle course. I was pretty upset. I already had a burning sensation in my eyes from all of the salt water and a feverish sensation in my buttocks from the hot sauce. And to top it all off I could hardly hear from all the peanut butter in my ears. However I swallowed my pride and obeyed my trusty shellback and proceeded to the beginning of the obstacle course. Again I went through every station and endured all the humiliations to reach the end and again was told to go back to the beginning. This time they felt sorry for me. Instead of making me go back to the beginning, the decided to take me to the focastle and have me call for Flipper. Flipper was a well know television dolphin that did not exist in real life. I can remember calling Flipper's name as if he was really going appear at the top of salty deep blue ocean. My honorable shellbacks thought it was so humorous. I was happy they found it funny. As long as they were laughing they couldn't have me doing anything else. However soon the laughing had ceased and I was lead back to the beginning of the obstacle course. This time when I reach the end I was allowed to finish. In front of me was a large tub of salty emerald water. It was used to simulate the final cleansing of the slimy wog. I jumped in with a sigh of relief and stayed down at the bottom for what seemed like a lifetime. When I emerged Master Chief Lloyd who was playing the part of King Neptune ask me what was I. I proudly held my head up high and said "King Neptune I am an Honorable trusty Shellback."

Custom Essays on WOG Day

After the wog day celebration everyone was off for the rest of the day. There was a big bar-b-queue on the flight deck. And later that night we had cinema at sea. To some wog day may be dumb and a waste of time. I felt the same way at first. But once I became a trusty shellback I was able to torture the other slimy wogs in the years that followed.

Order College Papers on The Dark Side of Education

Social status plays a pivotal role in this country. It is difficult for many people, especially immigrants, to get the right kind of education to boost them up the ladder of success. Jean Anyon, author of "The Hidden Curriculum of Work" spoke of how the quality of education is out of balance in our society. In my opinion, there exist three obstacles that Americans commonly face that inhibit them from a quality education. These include under representation, adaptation to the U.S. education system, and financial instability. Is quality education for everyone or just for the wealthy?Students from a lower social class in America are continuously under represented. In fact, one out of every five pursues a higher form of education after high school. Issues such as immediate financial need persuade students to seek early employment. Hence, most end up in careers such as auto-mechanics or construction. Cost of studying and being in debt are also concerns because they prohibit these students from going to universities or colleges for higher education. The few who make it to a University or college are overwhelmed by the long work hours to help pay for their food and tuition. Therefore, they have little time to study, which affects their grades negatively. William Zinsser said in "College Pressure", "I see four kinds of pressure working on college students today economic pressure, parental pressure, peer pressure, and self-induced pressure."

For the most part, underprivileged students are immigrants from other countries who come to America with a desire and passion to learn. Since our education system is heavily dependant on the textbooks that schools use everyday in their classes, many immigrants have a hard time understanding what is being taught because English is not their primary language. In a book by Mike Rose called Lives on a Boundary, he speaks of a Chinese boy who migrated from China and was not taught much English in his new school, so instead he started hanging out in recreation rooms, playing pool and watching T.V. Slowly he started to comprehend the English spoken on the T.V. and was able to speak, to read, and to write. Here, this Chinese boy is a good example of our educational system failing immigrants. The teachers failed to teach him to read and write good English, so he was forced to learn on his own. Frank Marell is also a great example of our education failing our immigrants. Back in his home country of Italy, he lived in a poor town where there was not emphasis on education. After him and his family arrived in America he continued his education. His parents did not make much money and he was sent to a low status school where their reading, speaking, and writing educational methods re poor. So Frank took jobs as a shoe shiner at local barbers shops where he would listen to other people talk and use that to brush up his English. Frank never gave up, and because of his determination, and dedication he was able to teach himself what he thought at first was impossible. I am surprised at the number of immigrants who have climbed the ladder of success in spite of the difficulties they encountered. If people would just give our children a chance to learn and grow through education, by not excluding them because of their class or background, then people would have such a better outlook on education as a whole.

Many have started to question education in this nation, are educational opportunities equal for everyone or just for the wealthy? Long ago a man named Plato wrote a book called The Republic, which entails how one creates a perfect educational system that is fair to everybody. He stated, "All children begin life and schooling the same. Over time, and through numerous tests, those who prove worthy are separated from those less likely to succeed. These chosen are slowly and logically weeded until a select few remain to compose the ruling class." He believed that all inhabitants (citizens and aliens) would receive the same education and let there own skills determine how far they can go. Allan Simpson, another author said in his tract "The Marks of an Educated Man", "Any education that matters is liberal. All the saving truths and healing graces that distinguished a good education from a bad one or a full education from a half-empty one are contained in that word." But People of higher social status attempt to use education to better themselves and their children at the expense of others through several methods. First, as mentioned previously, the students continue to acquire education to such a point that their education distinguishes them from the average student. For example if most of the work force has an undergraduate degree, then they will earn a masters degree to gain an advantage. Second, they will send their children to private schools that are perceived as better than public schools due to smaller class sizes and an emphasis on core academic subjects. Third, parents will move into more expensive neighborhoods where the public schools are seen as better. In theory, these better schools are open to all. In reality, they are limited to those well off enough to be able to afford to live within their district boundaries. The poor and immigrated students are continuously under represented and the established and wealthy students are getting the quality education. The middle class of students are able to afford moderately good education or at times education as good as the wealthy can. The poor and immigrated classes of students are always in the stress of being in debt and the rich classes of students never have the worry of not being able to afford any type of education and go into debt. The middle class has both of these problems, at times they are doing well and parents are able to send their children to great colleges and sometimes some of the middle class families encounter money problems and can only send their students to mediocre colleges and universities.

Education has become such a necessity for today's generation. Poor and immigrated students are to trying to acquire the same level of education that the rich and fortunate students can in order to be successful in life and obtain better social status. Under representation, adaptation to the U.S. education system and financial instability are many hardships faced by these students. The opportunity for quality education often seems diminished.

Dell Computer Company sells custom built computers directly to the customer wherever in the world. With the power of direct and Dells team of talented people, it provides customers with superb value; high-quality, relevant technology; customized systems; superior service and support. Dell will establish a new direction, create a new method and search for a new track to make the products and services that are easy to buy, use and recycle. Dell will become the best computer company in the world and people will regard Dell as their fist choice. Dell can help people to change their ways on work, study and communion with each other. Dells greatest source of optimism lies with customers and Dells dedication to these principles continues to benefit customers first.

External Audit or Assessment

External audit can approximately separate to 5 parts (1) Economic forces () Social, Cultural, Demographic, and Environmental forces () Political, Legal, and Governmental forces (4) Technological forces (5) Competitive forces. The changes of external audit will influence the variety of the products and the requirements of the consumers. If we can realize and utilize the external audit then we can catch the opportunity and make a success in the competitive market.

Now, aim at Dell Computer Company, we choose some primary forces, which can make great opportunity or crisis to Dell, as our focuses.

1. THREAT

Since the American market occupied 70% of Dell's net revenue in 00, so we will focus on it to illuminate the effects of economic forces. Some examples are listed below

(1) US Economy Stays Lackluster In 00 Q1

¡°The US economy continued to struggle in the first quarter of the year. Real GDP grew at an annual rate of 1.6% in the first quarter, a minimal improvement from the sluggish 1.4% pace of the fourth quarter. [1]

The US economy continues to disinflate. It is undermined in part by the uncertainty relating to the Iraqi war and the relationship between US and Euro. The purchasing power of the customers as a whole will drop. And also, for the individuals, people will reduce their consumption on the high-technical products. Some ones maybe delay their plans on buying a new computer or updating the old one, which means computer companies, will decrease their shipment. Other people who have to equip one will make their purchase plan more prudent. That is, they will give up extravagant accessories to save money. So, Dell, if he can provides custom build, high performance-price rate computers, he will become consumer's first choice. Then the disadvantageous factor, lackluster of the US economic, will change to an opportunity to Dell.

() US Employment Stays Weak

¡°Weakening confidence has also contributed to firms holding back on hiring. As a result, employment has declined in three of the last four months through March by an average of around 100,000 per month. ¡°[]

High unemployment-rate will change the consumer's method of purchasing. With the unemployment-rate raising, when people feel there are so many uncertainties in the future in their life, they will save money to avoid the risk and they wouldn't spend money especially on the high-technical consumable. This will strike the IT industry and Dell can not get away.

() War in Iraq and Its Aftermath

From the left fig [], we can predict that, like the Gulf War I, the US business confidence will comeback to a proper level quickly after the Iraq War.

The war with Iraq is not helping given it may ultimately add to instability in the Middle East but will inspire more mass terrorist acts. It wills likely act to ensure that we remain in a low return environment for shares for some time to come. The share markets remain cheap relative to other financial assets and the investor sentiment is still very negative. Along with this, Dell should establish a longtime stratagem to deal with the uncertain of the states of the global economic development.

(4) SARS (severe acute respiratory syndrome) Impact IT Supply Chain

The spread of SARS is already affecting professional sports and the airline and tourism industries and it could impact IT supply chain. ¡°At a minimum, the SARS epidemic will cause schedule slippages and disrupt the aggressive growth plans that global electronics companies have for the affected geographies. [4] ¡°Theres a risk that Western tech brands that outsource to Taiwanese companies will gradually adjust their strategies and support contract manufacturers with plants elsewhere to avoid putting all of their eggs in one basket. [5]

Many accessories and main parts are manufactured in P.R. China and other Asian countries. Because of SARS, the plants have to face the threat of stop production. To the computer companies, this accident will influence the shipment and the contracts. Besides the supply, they may also have the problems in marketing, for people are required to stay at home. Dell should increase his purchase channel to ensure his accessory's quantity and quality, then Dell will maintain his produce-and-sale's chain.

(5) Competitive Forces from HP & IBM

HP-Compaq and IBM are two of the mainly competitors to Dell in the computer market. Well know the competitors are very important to design Dell's stratagem.

¡°HP has done a terrific job in lowering costs and improving margins. It became the No. computer maker. HP competes against IBM in the market for profitable server- and mainframe-like computers and computer services, and against Dell in personal computers and low- to mid-range servers that use Intel microprocessors. [6] Now, HP sharpens dual-brand PC focus. ¡°HP wants to use the two brands to go after two distinct segments of the market, with HP attacking the high-end and the Compaq brand designed to compete on price and on bang for the buck. [7]

¡°Although our revenue from continuing operations of $81. billion was off percent from 001 and our earnings decreased 5 percent, to $5. billion, all of our core businesses¡ªfrom servers to storage systems, to middleware, to services-gained market share in 00. This is important. It means we will emerge in an even stronger position, relative to our competitors. [8]

Now, HP and Compaq have well off finished their incorporate, new company has build a new stratagem for his development. IBM has changed his main-focus and stratagem on the service. Dell cannot reduce his attention on his competitors, on the contrary, he must find out his competitors' strong suits and shortages. Dell is well positioned to leverage its business model with 7 percent operating margins versus below breakeven for both (HPs) and (Compaqs) PC divisions. He has got the advantages on the market share and customer's satisfaction. It is Dell's predominance and he must keep it. But, for the services-gained market is a high-return field and it is just the shortage for Dell. So, Dell must expend his work field and can't be focus on the computer only and to get a new profit gained-point.

Please note that this sample paper on DELL is for your review only. In order to eliminate any of the plagiarism issues, it is highly recommended that you do not use it for you own writing purposes. In case you experience difficulties with writing a well structured and accurately composed paper on DELL, we are here to assist you. Teenage pregnancy and childbearing are key factors in leading teenage mothers into social disadvantage lives. Women who give birth as teenagers share many similarities prior to becoming pregnant in terms of family background and education (Hofferth, Reid, & Mott, 001). Teenage mothers who drop out of school tend to experience more disadvantages than those who stay in school. The effect of pregnancy and childbirth on young mothers is often the cessation of education. Teenage pregnancy and non-completion of school can cause young mothers to experience lives of poverty. Her free time decreases because of the amount of time needed for the child (Hofferth et al., 001). For teenage mothers, taking care of children consumes time and energy. The time and energy spent on a child could have been devoted to school, work and leisure time activities (Hofferth et al., 001). Most teenagers that give birth to children drop out of school. A younger teenager is not as prepared as an older women to bear a child so it causes disadvantages for her. Teenagers that have a child at a younger age may have had less education, come from a single-parent family themselves and have many siblings (Hofferth et al., 001). The mothers of these teenagers that have these risk factors engage in early sexual activity and consequently become pregnant (Hofferth et al., 001). Several recent studies have used experiments such as comparing teenagers who have had a miscarriage with a teenager who has given birth to a child, to examine the effects of a teenage birth. One study found that teenage mothers that gave birth before the age of 18 have a reduced rate of high school graduation (Hofferth et al., 001). Of those teenage mothers, 41% obtained a high school degree, while 61% teenage girls who did not give births as teenagers obtained a high school degree (Hofferth et al., 001).The amount of school completed for a women affects her life. It also affects her opportunities for marriage, her circle of friends and her income from work, which can also lead to poverty. Girls who give birth during their adolescent years tend to function less effectively in numerous ways than their peers who delay childbearing (Hofferth et al., 001). However, recent research indicates that many of the negative outcomes of adolescent motherhood, such as low educational achievement and consequent poverty, precede rather than stem from early parenthood (Hofferth et al., 001). In essence, teenage childbearing adds to the limited prospects of already disadvantaged adolescent girls. These outcomes include poorer psychological functioning, lower rates of school completion, lower levels of marital stability, less stable employment, greater welfare use, higher rates of poverty, and slightly greater rates of health problems for both mother and child as compared to peers who postpone childbearing (Hofferth et al., 001). Other consequences of teenage pregnancy and motherhood are low-achievement, low-motivation, the teenagers immaturity and lack of success in school which are also linked to the fact that teenage mothers drop out of school (Hofferth et al., 001). Therefore Hofferth et al. (001) would expect early child bearers to be less likely than their childless peers to complete high school or at least college. Moore, Manlove, Glei, & Morrison (18) studied adolescent mothers and concluded that early parenthood had a strong negative effect on the educational attainment of girls, such that young mothers were unlikely to continue their education beyond giving birth and thus obtained lower total levels of education than their peers who delayed childbirth. In large part because of low educational attainment, teenage mothers have lower incomes as adults and are more likely to be on welfare than their peers who delay childbirth (Moore et al., 18). Overall, young mothers with a high school degree and work experience, may provide the needed incentive to obtain and maintain stable employment. Mothers with low education skills and poor functioning, or with other family problems, may have great difficulty maintaining stable employment, and thus may suffer a substantial loss in income (Moore et al., 18).However, parental involvement in their daughter's school such as attending school meetings, participating in school activities, going to their daughters honor ceremony are not related to whether their daughters will become pregnant. Furthermore, adolescents who are involved in religious organizations are less likely to bear a child. Teenage girls who belong to a club or attend church are those who most likely will not bear a child in high school (Moore et al., 18).

Cheap custom writing service can write essays on teenage pregnancy

Several techniques have been developed to attempt to separate out the effects of background factors which influence both the probability of a teenage birth and the future functioning of the young mother from the effects of early childbearing. For example, a number of studies have compared sets of sisters, one of whom had a child as a teenager and one of whom delayed childbearing until adulthood, in order to control for differences in family background factors commonly found between teenagers who do and do not become young parents (Hoffman, 18). Such studies found that the effects of teenage childbearing on high school completion and total educational attainment are much smaller than previous studies had indicated. For example, Hoffman, (18) found that postponing a teenage birth to after the age of 0 would increase the total educational attainment. This study found that having a child before the age of 18 reduces the likelihood of graduation from high school but attaining a GED ( General Equivalency Degree). However, a GED may carry a lower return in future earnings than a high school diploma (Hoffman, 18). This seems to be possible because of some teenage mothers that have a child and atten school at the same time. This is due to the fact that there all several programs that exists for this matter. There are day cares in the school which watch the child for the teenager while she is in school. There are multiple negative consequences associated with teen pregnancy (Moore et al., 18). Teenagers who have babies at an early age are less likely to complete high school, and more likely to be on welfare or to work at a job with a low income and experience poverty than women who delay childbearing until an older age (Moore et al., 18). The disadvantages for teenage girls who bear a child at such a young age reduce their education or employment opportunities. For women who delay pregnancy and childbirth, there are some advantages (Hofferth et al., 001). The mother is more experienced with life itself, has a better education background and often has a steady job and steady marriage. As life progresses, such factors integrate themselves with life and having a child.

I remember the second of August 00 like it was yesterday when my nightmare started, an now there is a hole in my heart which will remain there till the day I die.

The day was bright and warm on the morning of august the second, but there was a strange feeling in the air, which caused a chill down my spin. The air smelt like fresh bread straight from the oven.

As I walked down the stairs still in my p.js, the burning carpet warmed by the sun felt like fire warming the soles of my feet. Mum had left the toast out with the butter left beside it. I could still feel the heat coming off the crust on to my tired restless face.

I dragged my feet through the living room still with the burning sensation in my feet; I could see the blaring sun raise split the TV from its black and dull screen.

Then the ringing of the phone broke the deadly silence in the house. It was my best friend Risha asking weather I was up for the fair. I quickly said yes, dropped the receiver and ran up the stairs and jumped in to the bath.

I relaxed in the luke warm water, with the soft fluffy bubbles lying on my pale brown skin, like icing on a cake. The atmosphere around me was quite with only the bird's cherpsing outside the window and the ripples of the water as I moved my hands and feet. Soon everything went black... When I heard a thud on the bathroom door and someone asking me weather "I was aright".

At this point I opened my eyes to the beat when I realized I had fallen a sleep for a good hour or two. I shouted

"Yes im fine"

and sprawled out the bathtub.

My skin had gone wrinkly from the warm water. I raped my self in a blue soft towel and pulled the plug. The water rushed down the plughole like a tornado, leaving the white fluffy bubbles behind.

I unlocked the door and my body shivered from the cold air which hit me like a shock of lightning as I walked in my wide light blue room. I quickly put my jeans on and my baby blue top and rushed halfway down the stairs, when I heard a buzzing sound coming from outside. I walked down quickly and opened the front door to see my dad moving the lawn.

The air no longer smelt of fresh bread but more like a flowery mixed in with a grassy smell. I said

"Hello"

and walked back into the living room, leaving the front door wide open. I switched on the TV and flicked the channels vigorously, when I saw Risha's mum pull up into my driveway bleeping her horn so hard I could feel the whole house shake.

I grabbed my phone put my shoes on, I dint even bother to tie my laces, said bye to my dad, who had now finished the lawn and was planting some flowers which him and my mum had bought the previous day.

I climbed in to the red ford fiesta and sat in the back seat watching Rishas mum put the gear stick in to reverse, I waved to my dad and then the car spead out my calm, cosy street and on to the loud, busy many road.

We soon got to the fair; we bounced out of the car and into the park. The park was not crowed and there werent many rides, so we walked side by side round the whole park and sat on the steps of the walsers listening to the up beat music that the man had put on to liven up the surroundings of his business.

Somebody shouted

"Oi"

I twirled my body round, to see a tall, skinny boy standing in front of me, I soon realized it was one of my long lost friend that I hadnt seen for years on end. I picked myself up and ran as fast as my legs would go and jumped into his arm, hugging him so tight his face went red like a plump tomato. We stood talking for a few minuets, and then he gave me a peck on the cheek, and said he would give me a call whenever he was in Rushey mead.

I span around to an empty funfair, but it struck me, where was Risha? Where had she gone? Had she been kidnapped? Was she adopted by aliens? Where was she? Where? Where? Where? So many questions so little time. I walked quickly round the park trying to spot her, but nothing. My legs felt weak like jelly and all I could see was empty green areas, but no Risha.

Then my phone rang, I jumped in shock, I picked it up to hear my mum talking really quickly, I couldnt hear a word, her voice was dull and as if someone was holding her throat, Then I heard it, heard it loud and clear. My dad had been taken to hospital. My eyes watered like a flowing waterfall, I ran outside the park and cross the road to the bus stop still on the phone to my mum, I felt frustrated and as if someone had shot me in the heart. My battery died. I shouted for help but know one could hear me.

At this point I had forgot all about Risha. My mind had gone blank, even the clouds in the sky had turned black and dull. I tried ever so hard to stand patiently for the bus to take me home, but all I felt was numb and weak.

I heard a horn it was my older brother with the rest of my family apart from my mum who had gone in the ambulance with my dad. I ran not even watching the road and planked my bum into the back seat of the car and slammed the door. My sister hugged me tightly and held my hand through out the whole journey. I tried to speak but nothing would come out. My eyes burned, my cheeks were wet and my body temperature was high.

We got to the entrance of the hospital; we parked the car and got out. I stumbled holding the back of my legs for the pain to stop. The nurse guided us to the waiting room. I felt angry and impatient. As I sat on the red sofa I watched the clock go round and round in the dark, dismal room. My tears had stopped. I sat there thinking clenching on to the cushion which was beside me. My mind filled with emotions and lots of questions that I could not find the answers too. I pinched my self to awaken me from this dream, but I had proved my self-wrong, I was living in reality.

My mum walked in crying and said "He's gone". Once again my mind went blank and tears ran down my soft tender face, my mum grabbed me and held me tight, I wanted to run, wanted to hide, wanted this nightmare to stop.

The doctor came in and told us he was sorry, I shouted in disbelief pointing the finger at him blaming him for taking my dad away from me, I swore at him, my face turned angry, I didnt what I felt, angry or sad, I felt a variety of emotions which took me over.

The nurse guided us in to the room where my dad had been left to rest, I went in, the room was dark with only a one bright lamp shade that had been switched on, and lots of people who I didnt even know crying their eyes out.

I tiptoed over to my dad bedside. I tried to shake him, wanting him to wake up and hold me in his hands telling me everything was fine. I cried out loudly feeling as if I was going crazy. My body felt weak and I felt faint.

The doctor dragged me away and put me in this enclosed room with only a bed, he asked me to take this pink liquid which would make me feel dousey. I took it in one big gulp and rested my head on the pillow. My head spined and the room smelt of detox. I feel asleep with teardrops on my pillow.

A discussion starts about a beast coming from the water.- Then Simon says "Maybe there is a beast... What I mean is... maybe it's only us." Simon begins to understand what the Beast really is.- Jack does not know why Ralph has the right to make rules. He points out that Ralph cannot hunt, nor can he sing. Ralph counters that he was chosen and that is reason enough.- The assembly breaks up and the hunters do their dance once again. The boys are drifting apart into two groups those who follow Ralph's ideas and those who follow Jack.- In the night Ralph, Simon and Piggy are sitting on the assembly platform listening the cries of the childrens' nightmares.- Sixth Chapter Beast From Air- One night a plane is shot down near the island and the pilot is jumping out opening his parachute. But he is dead before he reaches the land.- The five year old twins called Sam and Eric ("Samneric") are on fire duty, but they have fallen asleep.- They wake up, re-light the fire, and see the "Beast from air". They run to tell Ralph.- As the sun is rising an assembly is called. The kids all believe that they are now in terrible danger, Jack calls for volunteers to help him go to the top and kill it.- It is decided that a party of hunters, plus Ralph and Simon, will go to hunt the Beast.- They trek to the castle and discover that nothing is there. Jack exclaims that the rock would make a great fort. Then they start the journey to the mountain.- Seventh Chapter Shadows and Tall Trees- Simon is sent through the forest to tell Piggy and the others that the hunting party will not be back before dark.- Jack goes to the top and comes back down, reporting that he saw something billowing up on top.- They all climb to the summit and see the Beast. During my FSA/FLEX year, I gained lots of very useful knowledge and experience. However I consider that one of the most important things that I learned was volunteerism since I both did volunteer work in the US and learned about it in high school and in general from FSA/FLEX program. This term was new for me because volunteerism was and still is very rare in Tajikistan. People are used to work for money. I think that in order for Tajikistan to develop and resolve many problems both economical and social, people need to learn about volunteerism and do more volunteer work, especially young generation. From the time I came back home, I wanted to do something in order to resolve at least some problems in Tajikistan that make peace in my country very fragile. I always believed that I can do many things by myself but with more people around I can achieve even more. I also realized that in order to reach my goals I need a good education which at that time was very hard to get in my city, Khujand (due to after war period). I traveled to Kyrgyzstan, in order to get admitted to American University of Kyrgyzstan. I successfully passed all the exams and received a full scholarship to study in AUK.

This year I am a senior and during my three years stay in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, I did not just study in order to reach my dreams, I tried to gain practical knowledge as well. I made close acquaintance with many Kyrgyz alumni and participated in nearly all FSA/FLEX activities held in Bishkek. I tried to come up with new ideas for fund raising, for example I proposed to bake brownies and apply pies and sale them in international organization, which actually turned out to be a good idea. Over the past five years along with Kyrgyz alumni I frequently visited Cancer Center and Nursing home. This experience has helped me to grow greatly personally and spiritually. By participating in various Kyrgyzstan alumni projects over the past three years, I have learned many traits including leadership, respect and empathy, as well as building wonderful friendships with people of different age, nationality, religion and culture. Besides these, I have also learned valuable skills, improved by Russian, learned some Kyrgyz plus learned how to bake, cook, be an interesting speaker and good listener, improved my public speech.

Moreover this year I had a great chance to expand my knowledge about volunteer work from Turkish volunteer organization in Istanbul, Turkey called Social Volunteers Foundation (TOG). In Istanbul Bilgi University I had a great chance to attend several lectures on effective ways of attracting people for volunteer activities where I learned how to search for funds, how to satisify both volunteers and people for whom help is provided. For exampe these were the topics that we studies like awareness of individual and social responsibilities, respect to different thoughts, beliefs, ethnic origins and values, understanding of teamwork and many other very useful topics. Also this year I have got an opportunity to take part in Tajik alumni project called Leadership Camp in Varzob. This project was very important for me because I always wanted to participate in projects held by Tajik alumni since I am planning to come back and work with Tajik children and youth. This time I have got a chance to both apply my university knowledge (because I taught a class called Conflict Resolution in Tajikistan) and practical knowledge of working with children since during my volunteer work in Cancer Center, I learn how to interact with children closely, I successfully applied this experience in Leadership Camp in Varzob. I had a great and very useful time during this project because it was one of my first step towards fulfillment of my dream.

I think that I gained quite lots of knowledge, which I could share in the Summit in Kiev both practical and theoretical. I think I am very close to my main dream, which is to open an NGO in Tajikistan and involve youth of Tajikistan in volunteer work. I already contacted with TOG-volunteer organization in Turkey about lending me a helping hand for beginning. I think that Summit in Kiev could also greatly help me to expand my knowledge even more about volunteer activities of alumni from all over Euroasia. To hear about their successful projects, way of doing these projects. For example Leadership Camp in Varzob was a project borrowed from Kyrgyzstan alumni, also called Leadership Camp where I also had a chance to participate. So I strongly believe that successful projects should be borrowed and applied in different states. This is one of the main reasons why I am so eager to take part in Summit since this Summit can give me an opportunity to intact with alumni from different states and listen to their projects and volunteer experiences. I am also very eager to share all the knowledge I have gained, which I think could be also very useful for the participants. -Please note that this sample paper on How has your professional experience, or community or political involvement prepared you to participate in and contribute to the Summit? Scout is childish and immature. In the first chapter, her reaction that the event that lead to the loss of Jem's arm was the expulsion of the Indians from the area. "I said that if he wanted to take a broad view of thing, it really began with Andrew Jackson. If General Jackson hadn't run the Creeks up the creek, Simon Finch would never have paddled up the Alabama, and where would we be if he hadn't?"(Pg ) Later in Chapter three, she also attempts to beat up Walter in revenge for making her start off on the wrong foot at school, which is a very childish way to solve methods. "Catching Walter Cunningham in the schoolyard gave me some pleasure, but when I was rubbing his nose in the dirt Jem came by and told me to stop." (Pg 8) Her childish retorts with Calpurnia and her asking Atticus to dismiss Calpurnia also shows her immatureness. "I told Calpurnia to just wait, I'd fix her one of these days when she wasn't looking I'd go off and drown myself in Barker's Eddy and then she'd be sorry"(pg 0) "staying behind to advise Atticus of Calpurnia's iniquities was worth a solitary sprint past the Radley Place" (pg 1). When Scout is unable to understand the change in attitudes of both Atticus and Calpurnia on her arrival home from school, she conclude that Atticus has merely "forgotten my noontime fall from grace" (pg 4) and Calpurnia has seen the errors of her way when she bent down to kiss Scout."She had wanted to make up with me, that was it. She had always been too hard on me, she had at last seen the error of her fractious ways, she was too stubborn to say so." (pg 5) Scout did not care whatever Miss Maudie did, she felt that since she never told on them and not interested in their private lives, "She was our friend" (Pg 50). This shows the innocence, glorious directness and honesty that Scout had as a child. Scout is very innocent and childlike and unable to understand that Jem has gone to get his trousers back because of pride and consideration, while Scout thinks that he just wants to avoid being beaten because it is painful. 'Mr Nathan's gonna find ‘em in the morning, Jem. He knows you lost ‘em. When he shows ‘em to atticus it'll be pretty bad, that's all there is to it. Go' n back to bed.' ‘That's what know…That's why I'm goin' after'em…You'll get your head shot off, Jem. Please…Atticus ain't ever whipped me since I can remember. I wanta keep it that way." (Pg 6) During the fire, Scout also shows her innocent view of her father to be a superhero, all powerful and may be able to stop the world ending when she asked " ‘Why aint he on top of one of the houses?' ", "You think we oughta make him get our stuff out?' (Pg 76.) "Atticus…knew everything(pg 8)and "The world's endin', Atticus! Please do something -!". She has told us that her father is omniscient and omnipotent.Scout is also insensitive at times. She was unable to sense Dill's unwillingness to talk to much about his own father and had to be told by Jem not to ask too much. "‘I haven't got one.' ‘Is he dead?' ‘No…' ‘Then if he's not dead you've got one, haven't you?" Dill blushed and Jem told me to hush…" (Pg 14). Later in Chapter three she also embarrasses Walter by commenting on his table manners when he poured syrup on his meal. "But he's gone and drowned his dinner in syrup… He's poured it all over" (Pg 0)

Cheap College Papers on ANALYSIS OF SCOUT

Scout is very bold in expressing her view and rebellious, as we can see when she commented on Walter's table manners despite two warning looks from Atticus, and retorted to Calpurnia and in her asking Atticus to Atticus to dismiss Calpurnia. "Atticus shook his head at me" (pg ) "Atticus shook his head at me again" (pg 0) She also refused to take out the gum from her mouth till she was threatened by Jem that he would tell on her. "'Ain't neither, it'll take the taste outa my mouth.' "You don't ‘n I'll tell Calpurnia on you"(Pg )Scout is very literal and innocent. With her misinterpretation of the word ‘upright' in her description of old Mr. Radley, we can also see that Scout is very literal. "Miss Stephanie Crawford said he was so upright he took the word of God as his only law and we believed her, because Mr Radley's posture was ramrod straight." (Pg 17-18). Scout is also very innocent and naïve when she "did not realize that Jem was offended by my contradiction him on Hot Steams, and that he was patiently awaiting an opportunity to reward me. He did.."(Pg 4), till Jem took his revenge on her. However, there was a loss of innocence in Scout , when she started to learn how to be tactful, and lied to Atticus "I said I would like it very much, which was a lie, but one must lie under certain circumstances and at all times when one can't do anything about them" (pg 14) about how she would very much like Aunt Alexandra to stay when the opposite is true.Scout also has prejudices against people. As we can see when she labeled people, defining them by their surname, and talked as if they belonged to a group with certain characteristics and was not an individual, first in School to Ms Fishers of Walter, "…he's a Cunningham" (Pg 6) and then at home to Cal of Walter "he ain't company, Cal, he's just a Cunningham" (Pg 0), showing how she had not outgrow the prejudice of Walter which she had initially.Later she also gives the explanation of Burris's rudeness to Ms Fisher as "He's one of the Ewells" (Pg )When Scout gave her criticism of the education system, which provided her only with "twelve years of unrelieved boredom"(Pg ) , we can see that she is very crictical and skeptical about the education, "the remainder of my school days were no more auspicious than the first. Indeed, they were an endless Project that slowly evolved into a Unit, in which miles of construction paper and wax crayon were expended by the State of Alabama in its well meaning but fruitless efforts to teach me Group Dynamics" (Pg 8), concluding it to be useless and a practical waste of resource. She also states that Atticus who never went to school "knew everything". Scout is violent and easily provoked. She feels that violence is the key to solving a problem. She attempts to beat up Walter in revenge for making her start off on the wrong foot at school "Catching Walter Cunningham in the schoolyard gave me some pleasure, but when I was rubbing his nose in the dirt Jem came by and told me to stop." (Pg 8), and also beats Dill up twice when he fails in his duties as a fianc. "He staked me out, marked me as his property, said I was the only girl he would ever love, then he neglected me. I beat him up twice but it did no good, he only grew closer to Jem." (Pg 47) Scout beats up Cecil Jacobs when he announced in the schoolyard that her dad defended niggers. "I soon forgot"(Pg 80) Scout also beats up Francis when he insults both Dill and and Atticus and provoked her beyond endurance. "This time, I split my knuckle to the bone on his front teeth. My left impaired, I sailed in with my right but not for long." (Pg 0). From how she fights boy without fear, and argues with people, we can also tell that she is confident._DO NOT STEAL_!
